statement
The scene depicted in this artwork was actually heavily inspired by my personal experience throughout the last school year since I was obligated to stay home and attend school digitally.
I have distorted figures to depict the various struggles of individuals during adolescence. I experimented with the rhythm of shapes to express human emotion. Although I started my investigation focusing solely on the emotions of individuals, I further expanded my works to interpersonal struggles.

My sustained investigation surrounds the idea of distortion.
I was really attracted to portraying emotions by distorting images because of the bizarreness and freedom that the technique holds. There were really no boundaries or restrictions holding me back. I could just freely manipulate the movement of figures and objects by layering images.
Throughout the past school year, since I was obligated to stay home and attend school digitally, I decided to create a piece that really resonated to with me and many other students experienced during the global pandemic. My intention with this piece was to express the sense of isolation, confusion, and self-reflection one goes through, especially during the quarantine process.

Aidan is a hardworking student who has dedicated a lot of his free time to investigate his guiding question in depth. His ability to materialize concepts using various techniques is excellent. He has given a lot of thought to how various techniques could be differently interpreted conceptually and used his insights to deepen the narrative of his work. I have continuously encouraged him to step outside of his comfort zone so that he is able to experiment with the growth mindset. Although he felt a bit lost at first, he gained confidence in his practices as the investigation progressed. He has strong ownership of his work, which was evident in the discussion I had with him. He had a lot of ideas to share and I made sure that he was leading his own practices while I only supported and guided him through presenting different possibilities. His work is stylish and delicate. His interests in the trends and subcultures are evident in his work.
