“Through my investigation, I wanted to see how to make large and dynamic forms that have been inspired by years of potters’ past. How has pottery evolved over the years and generations?”

My inquiry is fully based off finding the “perfect” form based on shape and color, as well as using inspiration from many different forms and cultures of pottery and modernization of their form.
I studied many different forms and techniques of wheel throwing and spent countless hours designing forms, time and time again mixing different glazes to test with different cones and different clay bodies. Majority of my pieces are thrown in different sections and shapes, for example my vessel labeled “montipora” was created with 4 sections, all slipped and scored while my wheel was still spinning to achieve almost perfect symmetry. The form labeled “carnation” was assembled in 3 sections following the same process as my form “montipora.” My two other forms were direct studies of Etruscan pottery and form with a modernized touch. The Etruscan-based vase was created as a glaze test for an Etruscan-based glaze combination. My Etruscan jar was thrown as a closed form, then trimmed carefully to create a two-piece functional jar, then glazed with natural tones to compliment the Etruscan feel of the vessel.
